I can see what you're saying, and I think you have a point as far as the "step in the wrong direction" goes. I have issues with the death penalty, mostly centered around the inaccuracy that can occur, and the fact that you can't take it back if you find you screwwed up.

That having been said, I'd be satisfied if he were executed; I think maybe that's the word I'm looking for, satisfied, not happy.

Yes, I agree completely - with the death penalty, there've just been too many cases where after the fact they find that the executed party was actually innocent. That sends a chill into my soul. If the one who killed Amanda were sentenced to death, only if they knew beyond the merest shadow of doubt that he was the one who'd done it would I feel in any way all right with the proceedings.

Yes. "Satisfied" is a very good word for this.
