You know, the best villains are the ones who think they're doing the right thing, and who, in a certain light, really do want something good. It makes them believable. No one wakes up and says "Gee, I think I want to be eeeeevil today. Ima go and [do something really not nice]. Yeah, that's the ticket." The worst thing about all of this is, when you see what said villain's motives really are, you can almost nod your head and say, "Yeah." And that can be the scariest part of it all.
