NekoCon, Part 2
The Heart of The Con
I'm not sure exactly when Saturday began. Louis didn't get in until sometime around 5:00, and I think we were all up and about between 8:00 and 9:00. Showers commenced, with the guys defering preference to the girls. It was odd, though, in that there was too much to be done, and not enough bathroom, and so measures were taken to maximise the situation. After all, with the shower curtain pulled, none of the parties could be offended, and we could all shower and pretty ourselves up in peace. There's something about showering while others are doing their hair and make up in the same room that just makes for a bonding experience. Not in a weird or sick way, but I think we all learned to be a bit more comfortable with eachother. At least, I felt so.
A good part of the morning was spent in the dealer's room, and at some point Claire and I ducked into the AMV Panel. Alot of it was very techie, and while I found it moderately interesting, Claire wanted to get out of there. I think we spent some time in the Art Gallery (where a few of Kim's pictures were up for bid) and then spent a while getting lunch. Taran wanted Taco Bell, and I offered to take her, and then we came back and had soup, and then met to watch the full AMV Contest. Claire and I were a little late getting down there (though for the life of me I can't remember why (it was probably my fault >_< ) and we ended up having to wait in line. Luckily it wasn't as long as I feared, and we made it in well in time to see Louis's Vid. While in line, I heard some guy say "Yeah, there's one to Carol of the Bells that's OK, and a really good KareKano one, but the rest are kind of 'blah'." That was great. ^_^;; I donno what it is, but I feel really proud when Louis's work gets recognized. At AnimeUSA, I was his biggest fan, and at Neko, it was just flipping awsome to hear somone say that (Louis, of course, being the only KareKano vid). I'm such a success leech.
After the AMVs, Leslie, Rae, Beth, Louis, Heather, Sean, and I went to a Japanese Sushi bar for dinner. It was so grand. We had a great chat over dinner, and we got a great assortment of Sushi - the tuna was good (raw tuna is so much better than the processed stuff) but by far the best was the eel. I LOVE EEL. I think I could eat eel forever (or at least several courses...) It was just a blast, though the three with me ragged on my music.
We split and wandered until the Dance. I watched some of Samurai Deeper Kyo (which is like Kenshin, but not) and then bumped into The Girls (Claire, Heather, Taran, and Kim) and sat with them, waiting for "This Is Otakudom" which was supposed to be really funny. Taran had donned a duct-tape shirt, and she and Kim, in catgirl outfits, had managed to beg over $25 in change out of passers-by durring the afternoon. When crunch time came, though, there were four seats and I was the fifth man. I could have waited for someone to leave, but I didn't think that would happen, and rather than sit and listen to everyone else laugh inside the room, I went to get some lovin' from Leslie.
I found Leslie and Louis (and Sean, and later Beth and Megan) in The Hall of The Otaku Choir, though the Vhoir was missing this year. I fear I may have interrupted them, but they managed to cheer me up, especially with Meghan's nails and The World's Most Morbid Con Story. Apparently, there was once an Anime Convention schedualed at the same time and place as a Baptist Convention. One guy, sporting a CosPlay outfit of some large demonic anime character was going down to the lobby when the door opened on this lady. Summoning forth his deepest voice, he asked the lady "Going Down?" The lady didn't get on, and the guy kinda laughed about it - only to find later that she'd died of a heart attack on the spot.
Thinking about it, I question the authenticity and/or validity of this story, but it made me laugh. Uproarously.
Afterwards, we all (Claire, Taran, Kim, Heather, Sean, Louis, Leslie, Beth, Meghan, and I) got together for the Dance. It, like all dances, was grand. I do believe Leslie and Louis were trying to get down on me about my dancing (and hair and voice and myriad other things) but Leslie has no idea what monster she has created. Get me in a dark room with friendly faces, flashing lights, and techno, and I'll dance until I pass out. Luckily, we decided to go to Sleven again before that happened, but my heart was still pounding and my lungs burning. Durring the dance we had lost Claire and Heather to exhaustion, Kim and Taran to guys, and gaied the psuedo-Brit Patrick, so the remenants of our group went to get slurpees. Somewhere between getting money and getting to Sleven, we got broken up, and Leslie and Beth had gone on ahead, so the guys followed - only to learn that Meghan wasn't with them. So when we got back, Sean went to take a shower (as we were all covered in Ota-goo) and Beth and Leslie ditched out while Louis, Patrick and I escorted Meghan to 7-11, and had a fun time and grand chat durring it.
From there, Louis and I went upstairs. I showered while he talked to Pat (ridding myself of the Ota-goo) and then Louis did likewise before going back to hang out with Meghan. Claire and Heather were asleep, and Sean was in Bed, when Taran came in to remove her duct-tape shirt. She soaked in the bathtub for a while after it wouldn't just cut off, and got out in time for Kim to come in and shower as well. Since I was up when Kim got in, she asked who was still out, and thus didn't bolt the door. And so, feeling quite exhausted and quite content, I went to sleep at around 3:30 or 4:00, and Saturday, too, ended.
